How a hybrid solar system works

A hybrid system combines solar panels and a battery with a connection to the electricity grid. The inverter manages energy flows according to its settings and system design. Solar electricity can serve active loads, charge the battery or, where permitted, interact with the grid.

What can battery storage provide?

Storage can make some generated energy available later, including after sunset. Whether the system supplies selected circuits during an outage depends on the equipment, wiring and backup configuration. Confirm which loads are backed up and for how long; battery capacity is finite and actual duration depends on consumption.

Questions to ask when comparing designs

Check inverter compatibility, battery chemistry and usable capacity, expansion options, monitoring, warranty terms and service availability. Ask the installer to explain the expected operating modes and any limits on grid export or backup output.

Is hybrid right for your property?

A hybrid arrangement may be worth evaluating when storage or backup is important, but it can cost more and involve additional equipment than a basic grid-connected design. Compare the system's expected benefits with the property's energy use and outage requirements before selecting a configuration.
